The travel now days is considered safe because of lesser number of accidents taking place, because of modernization and automation of equipments and better telecommunication systems by use by the organizations involved in traveling field to increase their efficiency and observing scientific safety standards.

But an accident is an accident, earlier perhaps loss per accident was low, which has now increased manifol, because now a days long travel is done by air and one air mishap can put the loss figure very high because more number of people traveling in jumbo jets.

While traveling by Air, it is normal to take a travel insurance, the insurance premiums are low, because the incidents of Air Accident is very low considering the air flights take off or a flight landing every five minutes from a busy airport at their peak hours.

Travel insurance is a risk cover, which is intended to cover medical expenses and making good of a financial loss, which takes place in between your resuming the journey and in continuance till you reach back home. It can be like money invested in nonrefundable pre-payments and other losses suffered during travel, either in country of origin or international places enroute of journey.

Temporary travel insurance is usually obtained at the time of making reservations for travel journey covering the entire travel places, involving various modes of transports and duration. If one is a frequent traveler, one can take open travel insurance for a specific period ranging to few months or full year directly from the insurance company.

There are a number of category of travelers each having a specific need of Travel insurance, hence there are different plans to fit the need and pocket of the traveler. The plans are for Student travel, business travel, leisure travel, adventure travel, cruise travel, and international travel. Thus all respective travel risks can be covered by an insurance plan.

The routine risks, which are covered by travel insurance, are as below:

Medical expenditures.

Emergency need to come back /repatriation

Cancellation of travel/interruption in travel.

Death of the insured person as a result of an accident, sustained injuries or getting disabled as a result of an accident.

Overseas funeral expenses

Delay in departure affecting connected tour.

Damage to personal articles, loss of luggage and cash.

Personal liability and rental car damage excess

Few travel policies have provision of covering extra incurred expenditure. There are lot of variations from one company to other in such respects.

Besides the basic travel insurance plan additional cover can be obtained in respect of following:

Suffering from chronic diseases like asthma, diabetes etc.

Adventurism sports having more risk involvement like skiing, scuba-diving etc.

For traveling in high risk countries having risk of exposure to war or naturally occuring disaster zones or places having rampant terrorism.

Generally following are the exclusions not covered in Travel Insurance Plans:

pre-existing disease.

war like conditions or terrorism.

If injury or illness is caused under influence of alcohol or drugs.

The cost of Common travel insurance plan having coverage for whole period of journey usually is within the range of 5-7% of total cost of travel package.

Organizing Your Stuff – Before moving off to start your travel around the world makes sure your stuffs and possessions will be safe and secure while you are away for long time. One can find someone responsible and honest to stay and look after his house, or rent or sublet during the time you will be traveling.

Financial Matters – The amount of money required depends completely on the length and type of traveling you will choose. It varies depending on the kind of accommodation one wants. If you are planning for expensive adventure traveling, scuba diving then it will cost you more. However, one must leave his money in the safe custody of the bank back in home and carry cards while traveling. ATMs are easily available in all parts of the world for easy cashing of money. One can also carry travel checks.

Passport / Visas – Applications for passport are easily available from passport agencies in the place one lives in or post offices and online travel agencies. It approximately takes six weeks if one is applying for the first time. Get your passports renewed in time.

Vaccinating Yourself – Few vaccinations like Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and rabies are important to be taken over weeks before going away for long time. One can visit the local clinic or immunization clinic to get consultations and injections. One can also visit travel clinic.

Travel Insurance – It is good to be prepared before than regret later. Make sure you get your traveling insurance done by your insurance agent. These usually cover emergencies like luggage lost, cancellation of trip, medical insurance, and life insurance. There are special insurances that cover adventure sports.

Bag Packing – This is a very important issue. One must keep the packing simple and small however, not forgetting the very essentials needed while traveling. Packing things depend largely on the place you will be traveling in. Winter countries require carrying off enough woolen clothes, gloves, jackets. Mix and match clothes that are light weight and gets dry easily when washed. Wear shoes that supports your traveling.

There are many travel insurance options. A high percentage of Americans who are over 65 have chosen Medicare A & B and probably C. On top of this they may also have a Medicare Supplement policy.

If you are a senior citizen and plan to travel outside the States, you need travel insurance. Your current insurance will not give you adequate coverage. The reality is that no Medicare plan will provide medical coverage outside the USA or medical evacuation coverage.

The older we get the more difficult it is to get international medical insurance.

But there is good news! There are several travel insurance options that have no age limitations whatsoever.

But which supplemental medical insurance options are best for you and your loved ones? Before you speak with your insurance broker, find out what your current health insurance covers. From there you can determine what travel insurance you will need.

These are questions to ask:

1. Is there an age limit on the plan? Some plans have no age limit while others insist that you cannot be over 74 or 84 years of age.

2.Is there a reduction in benefits due to age? Some plans carry limited coverage for those 80 years of age or older. Check to see how much coverage they will give you.

3.How long does coverage last? One insurance option covers only a month while another insures you for six months.

4.Does it cover pre-existing health conditions? There is one plan that will cover all pre-existing medical conditions but it requires travelers to have US underwritten health plan or Medicare A, B and C.

5.What types of coverage do you want? For example, do you want a plan that will insure you in cases of coma, felonious assault, political evacuation, or a sports injury? A lot of this depends on the nature of your trip and upon what countries you will travel through.

6.How much Medical Evacuation is covered? One plan covers you for up to $250,000 while another $300,000.

7.Is the policy renewable? You may want to take multiple trips during the next several years. So you will want to know whether or not the plan is renewable. If it is, this will save you time and energy looking for another plan the next time you travel.

The best thing to do is to speak with an insurance broker. Travel insurance options are inexpensive and in the long run worth every dollar! Below is a link to these insurance policies.

With a host of major sporting events taking place all over the world in the coming weeks, there are huge numbers of British sports fans expected to travel overseas to watch the action unfold live. Whether it’s to watch the Champions League Final in Rome, the British and Irish Lions in South Africa or the boxing in Las Vegas, sports fans continue to follow their favourite athletes and sports teams across the globe.

While this in itself is not a problem, one issue that has been identified is the number of sports fans that are travelling without travel insurance. One in five Brits fail to take out any form of travel insurance when travelling abroad. With this number increasing significantly with last-minute planning and short stays, the number of supporters that potentially put their trip and their health at risk is quite staggering.

There are a number of issues that may arise on a trip like this. It is important to protect against these issues which may include lost tickets, cancelled or delayed flights, personal accidents and theft by taking out sufficient travel insurance.

In the event of a medical emergency, a travel insurance policy would cover the costs of treatment. Without this cover, the costs to receive medical attention can spiral out of control.

When planning a trip overseas to support your favourite athlete or team, remember to ensure that you have sufficient travel insurance to cover any possible incidents or issues. Without this cover you are taking a huge gamble, a gamble that may end up costing you several thousand pounds.

Going on holiday often needs a lot of careful planning before you can actually get down to enjoying the holiday itself. Travel insurance is a vital factor of any holiday and to ensure that you get the best deal you will most likely have to compare travel insurance from a number of places. There are many factors to consider, so take a look at this handy guide.

Why do I need travel insurance?
Before you start to compare travel insurance rates you may be wondering what it is you actually need travel insurance for. Going to a foreign country can be wrought with pitfalls, there is always the potential for problems to sneak up on you and ruin your holiday. Travel insurance is a necessity and it will usually cover the following risks:

Medical expenses
If you were to fall sick or become injured abroad then you could be hit with a painful medical bill. If you have a previous condition some providers may not cover you. Compare travel insurance providers and scope out which provider could suit your condition best.

Emergencies
When you come to compare travel insurance policies you may notice premiums offered in case of emergencies such as the passing away of a relative. It’s easy to get carried away when creating a policy so make sure you don’t throw money away on aspects you don’t necessarily require.

Crime
Sadly the world we live in is full of miscreants who are waiting to pounce on unsuspecting victims. Being in another country with a completely different culture can leave you exposed and vulnerable to acts of crime. If you are taking valuables with you, some providers may insist that these items are kept in a specific place – another reason to compare travel insurance and find a policy best suited to your specific needs.

Exclusions
Along with the aforementioned medical issues, you may also find it difficult to gain insurance if you are travelling to a country of great risk or somewhere the government have advised against travelling. Keep abreast of any warnings from British embassies and organisations such as the World Health Organization. If you stay on top of where is safe to travel then you will have no issues with your travel insurance provider.

According to research, one in five people travel abroad without travel insurance. This means that 20% of people take a huge risk and choose to travel overseas uninsured. Whilst this may be seen as a way of saving money in this tough economic climate, travelling without travel insurance can have expensive repercussions.

Travel insurance covers travellers against a number of incidents and issues. Without insurance a traveller is left to cover the costs of any incidents themselves. These costs will vary depending on the incident but it is safe to say that in most if not all cases, it would have been cheaper to pay for a travel insurance policy than pay to resolve the issue.

There are a number of ways in which purchasing a travel insurance policy can save you money. Should a holiday need to be cancelled or delayed due to unavoidable circumstances, a travel insurance policy will cover any financial loss. Any expenses sustained because of delays or cancelled flights will be covered by your policy. Stolen or lost money and/or personal belongings, including your passport, will also be covered by your insurance policy.

Perhaps the most important issue that is covered by a travel insurance policy is medical emergencies. Medical treatment abroad can be extremely expensive. That is of course, unless you have travel insurance. If travel insurance is taken out by travellers, any illnesses and injuries can be treated and the costs incurred will be covered.

These are just a few examples that highlight how important travel insurance is when travelling overseas. Whilst it is understandable that people are looking to save money where they can, not taking out travel insurance is certainly not advisable and could end up costing you a significant amount of money. When you consider the costs that could be covered and the peace of mind that these policies offer, it really is surprising that 1 in 5 of us continue to travel abroad without travel insurance.
