In Memory Of Nancy L Cote
Nancy L. Cote, 64, of Derby Line passed away at her home
on April 10, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. She was born July
19, 1943 in Burlington a daughter of Joseph and Florence (Allard) Cote.
Nancy was a trustee and archivist for Nulhegan Band for six years and
she also worked for the Native Community of Abenaki Nation for twenty
years. She formally worked as a printer for Newport Daily Express, The
Burlington Free Press, and she enjoyed painting and free lance photography.
She is survived by her children: Dawn Macie of Newport, Cindy Dague
of Derby Line, and Charlee Kendall and her husband Charles of Whitehall,
New York, by four grandchildren: Heath Macie, Melissa Dague, Candace
Dague, and Yvonne Dague and by eight great grandchildren. She is also
survived by two brothers: Donald Cote and his wife Connie of Colchester,
and Gary Cote and his wife Melinda of Cambridge, two nieces: Tari and
Stephanie.
Nulhegan Band members will
always remember Grandmother Nancy (Pibunkimkazas) for her fiery spirit,
for saying what was on her mind and not worrying who was around to hear.
Her voice and rhythm on the drum, her generosity towards friends and
family.
It seemed she would always have a kitchen full, everyone sitting around
and drinking coffee. Conversations were never dull, sometimes heated.
These are times that people close to Grandmother Nancy won't ever forget.
There really aren't enough words to describe Grandmother Nancy, to know
her was an honor. I was sent a lot of pictures and tried to pick out
the best to give anyone viewing this page a glimpse into her life.
You will be missed, never forgotten. Even though you're not with us
physically, we will always feel and be touched by your Spirit.
